Announcing the 2024 Fern Planner
2024 - The Year of the FernI'm thrilled to share with you a project that's close to my heart – the 2024 Fern Planner. This dated, year-spanning planner has an innovative layout that allows you to simultaneously see the full rundown of your week, while maintaining the context of the entire month without having to flip back and forth. In a world full of complexities, I sought to develop a planner that brings simplicity to your daily routine. The Fern Planner gives you the easy-browsing of a digital planner but in physical form, away from the distractions of your devices. The lesson of the fern is that fractal, small scale solutions impact the whole. My approach to my time has been transformed by the use of the earliest prototype of this planner for the past year. It's given me a dedicated place to capture just enough information for my day, week, and month - all visible in one view. Away from digital distractions, yet with enough context of the week and the month to support flexibility as needed. Just a planner and yet it has changed entire approach to what and how I'm contributing each day.
As I began the translation of my customized notebook layout into a digital file, I saw the opportunity for this split-view to work in both a book style (A5) and a calendar style (8.5 x 11) format. Both offer a Monday start week, with each day having the same amount of space, while allowing for a banner of the entire month to be visible as you flip the page for each week. I hope that this will help other analog planner people (of the paper planner curious) in their work and life, by bringing in a small scale solution to transform their whole approach.
